Mental Health Online Research
Guest Author - Lisa Angelettie M.S.W.

I receive many requests from students who need help with various projects and research papers, but I am unable to help them because of my hectic schedule. So I thought, this would be a great time to provide you all with my top ten list of mental health resources that will make your research go a lot smoother.

1. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIHM) is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This source is always great, because all good papers should have a government reference. It screams CREDIBILITY!

2. The American Psychological Association is also a great place to get a lot of general information on specific and general psychological disorders. You could also probably find someone who would provide you with a quote through this site.

3. Lots of up-to-date information at this psychological information site. Chock full of articles, blog entries and other current psychological subjects.

4. Although it's not my alma mater:) Stanford is known to have the leading psychological department among the country's universities. If you need to find out something new and cutting edge - and also want to talk to a professor in the field, this is the place for you.

5. While I love the depression site here at Bella, again - I can't help you with your paper. So, another just as great resource for depression is the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. I really like this site. It's user friendly and keeps you up to date on current issues in managed healthcare in regards to depression and bipolar disorder.

6. Another great site is the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression. Whew! A long title - but basically the site is a mental health research association. So lots and lots of articles and tidbits. A lot of news items as well as current research reports and interviews. A really great site.

7. People always want to know what the alternatives are to traditional mental health treatment. So if you are adding information on treatment options in your research project/paper, then visit the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine for credible options. This site is also a division of the National Institutes of Health.

8. Borderline Personality Disorder is more common than you think. And it is a serious disorder that can ruin the lives of many people. It's a fascinating mental health disorder which can be successfully treated. To learn more about it - go to this site. One of the oldest sites on this topic online.

9. Get the basics. You can't forget this information site, but remember that you cannot always trust the validity of the content. But one thing each topic is sure to have are some additional links to other relevant sites.

10. This site is considered another credible resource. I'm sure you all have heard of it, so this is just a reminder. Web MD is considered the #1 online medical authority. You can feel confident in any research you use from this site.
