The month of May brings spring weather, flowers are blooming, and the birds have come back to nest. The month of May is also known for the following things that you may find fun and helpful to celebrate with your children.
Of course, first on the list is Mother’s Day. Teach your children to show their appreciation to their mother and grandmothers, not necessarily with expensive gifts, but with small acts of kindness like making her dinner, letting her rest, and making a special card. Most moms don’t need expensive things to know they are appreciated.
May is recognized as Asthma Awareness Month. If you have ever seen anyone suffer an asthma attack, you know it is a scary thing. Asthma is a respiratory disease that affects the quality of life for many people. To learn more about what triggers asthma attacks and helpful information for those who suffer from asthma visit this website: http://www.epa.gov/asthma/index.html
National Physical Fitness and Sports Month is celebrated in May. Let’s face it, the age of computers, television, video games, and fast food has left many of the younger members of our society over weight and out of shape. Why not start an outdoor activity as a family? It doesn’t need to be anything fancy; maybe a family game of kickball or a walk will do the heart good.
Museum Month is also in May. Why not find a local museum and take the kids. Many museums offer more than just tours, they now offer workshops and hands on learning for kids. So go ahead and take in some local culture with the kids.
Here’s one that I am sure not many of you knew, May is Bacon Month. Why not go online with the kids and learn all you can about bacon. Did you know there is even a website for people who love bacon? Yes and here is the link to check it out http://www.baconunwrapped.com/2008/02/interview-with-rocco-bacon-freak.html
A few more things May is known for: Arthritis Awareness Month, Cystic Fibrosis Month, and May is Bike month. So have fun celebrating all the things May stands for.
