Back to School with Celiac Disease

Parents often need to develop a health care plan for their sons and daughters with celiac disease to share with administrators, school staff and daycare workers. Children with celiac disease have dietary restrictions due to gluten intolerance, but there are non-food products that can also cause problems at school and childcare centers, especially in art supplies.

Families and concerned professionals have developed resources for parents who are sending their newly diagnosed children with celiac disease to school for the first time, and for those whose children are changing schools or transitioning to upper grades. Many families seek as much information as possible about celiac disease to understand how the condition may be affecting their child without symptoms, to avoid or delay onset of related conditions, and to treat the symptoms that are most troublesome to the child and parents.

Browse at your local bookstore, public library or online booksellers like Amazon.com for information on gluten free products, Gluten free cookbooks, and books on raising children who have celiac disease, like Raising Healthier Children with Celiac Disease
