Hot weather and beer are natural partners, but even better when Organic Ice Cream is added. On July 30, 2008, Sebbie Buhler of Rogue Ales in Newport, Oregon joined with Vosges Haut-Chocolat SoHo Purple House in New York City for a beer and ice cream pairing that featrued a sneak preview of Vosges' four new exotic ice creams: Argentinean-style dulce de leche, Arriba Nib Brownie, Madagascar Vanilla Bean and Barcelona. You ask, "Really? Do beer and ice cream go together?" The answer is "Yes," and "yes." and "yes."

Yesterday I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Sheriff, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant? On impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's rear end and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Wal-Mart won't let me shop there anymore.

In July 2008, Heartland Brewery announced the introduction of The Beer Goddess®, a three-liter hand-blown Pilsner glass that holds 6.3 pints (101.4 ounces, or 8.5 cans) custom-made for Heartland by Rastal of Germany. Heartland Brewery believes that when filled with one of its locally brewed craft beers, the glass may be "The Largest Glass of Beer Commercially Available," (i.e. served in a bar or restaurant.) Heartland has applied to the Guinness Book of World Records for verification.

Great American Beer Festival - October 9-11, 2008 - Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado, USA
Also known as the journey to Mecca for beer enthusiasts, the Great American Beer Festival features American Beer from all regions of the United States. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it features the largest number of beer on tap anywhere in the world. Attendees have their choice of sampling 1,800 beers from 400+ breweries, while being entertained by on-stage live presentations In the Brewers Studio, beer and food demos at the Beer and Food Pavilion, and meeting leading authorities throughout the beer community. It also features the world's largest competition of commercial beers, awarding the winners with gold, silver and bronze medals.

Flaveurs Bieres et Caprices - November 14-15, 2008 - Le Windsor Ballroom, 1170 Peel Street, Montreal, Canada. Maximum of 800-1,000 visitors per session, with 3 sessions available: Friday and Saturday evenings 5:30-11:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoon 11:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
This is the second edition of this culinary event which features beer pairings with fine food. This edition pays homage to Sweden and Denmark, and will feature the artisanal creativity of 24 Swedish and Danish beers paired with delicacies from these Nordic countries.
