Healthy eating tips can be found just about anywhere but not many healthy eating plans focus on eating habits that help you shed the pounds while being environmentally conscious. Mark Bittman author of Food Matters teaches you how to do both in a simple way that truly satisfies your appetite.
Healthy Eating Tip #1: Food should be made from real ingredients that you can actually pronounce. If you're the typical food consumer then chances are you buy plenty of processed foods with ingredients that you can't even pronounce. Here's a little experiment to try. Go through your pantry, fridge, and freezer and pull out every single bag, box, or can of seemingly healthy food. Even the most healthy conscious food consumer will be shocked by the amount of processed food vs. the amount of real food in the home. But that's not the scary part. If you actually go through the ingredient lists on all these products you'll soon find that you can't even pronounce most of them. The key to weightloss, health, and environmentally conscious eating is to eat meals with real ingredients that you can actually pronounce. Bittman's book teaches you that this is much easier than you imagine.
Healthy Eating Tip #2: Take it easy with the animal products. According to Bittman most people eat 2.5 pounds of animal products and junk a day and only .5 pounds of vegetables per day. This gross imbalance is the main reason why people are so overweight, unhealthy, and our land is over farmed and soil is so depleted. A great way to lose weight, get healthy, and help the environment is to cut back on animal products and start eating way more plant foods. His recommendation is by no means a plea to turn vegan just a common sense suggestion to eat a more balanced diet. I recently tried Bittman's tip and found it much easier than I thought it would. It's also helped me save money!
