Love vs. Weightloss

When you're in love it seems like nothing else matters including your diet, workouts, and all the hard work you put into looking and feeling great. Sooner than you think you start gaining weight and if you're in a good relationship, it doesn't matter anymore because you're too busy having fun and being happy. Only problem is that when you finally notice that you're no longer as lean and fit as you used to be it's often too late to do anything that doesn't take a ton of work. So why not break the cycle before it even starts. Here are some quick tips that can help you stay on track with your workouts and diet.

Eat Out Healthy
When you're dating and in love the thing everyone seems to do a lot more of is eat together. Dinner and a movie, drinks and a show, getting together for lunch, breakfast in bed, sporting event and munchies, etc. etc. You can't get around it but you don't have to give in to the junk. You can find healthy options wherever you go. If you feel tempted to have too much of the bad stuff when you go out to eat try sticking to 6 small meals throughout the day and you'll be less likely to binge when you go out.

Schedule a Weekly Workout Date
Working out as a couple can be fun if you don't get too competitive or bossy. A quick basketball game, a bike ride through the neighborhood, a day hike, or 20 minutes of circuit training at the gym, is just as much a date as dinner and a nightclub. Be flexible about the activity and focus on getting to know the other person and you'll have fun and burn some extra calories.

Make Time For Yourself
The tendency is to spend every waking moment with your wonderful partner which causes you to eat less healthy and workout less. If you make time for yourself from the beginning for exercise and other healthy pursuits you're letting your partner know that is a part of who you are. If they truly love you they'll understand and think very highly of you. It will also make the other person want to be with you more when you're not around all the time.

Choose A Healthy Partner
Sometimes we meet great people who have incredibly unhealthy habits. Perhaps they smoke, drink excessively, never exercise, and eat fast food all the time. If any of this is not acceptable to you long term then re-think your relationship. Settling for someone who doesn't have the same health and fitness goals will usually put you through some serious exercise and diet setbacks. Holding out for someone with similar health and fitness goals may not sound like fun but it's definitely worth it.

Get Your ZZZZs
Getting enough sleep is hard enough as it is without adding a new relationship to the mix. It may not seem like a big deal to skip sleep altogether or to get less than five hours a night but eventually it catches up to you and slows down your metabolism, makes you too tired and cranky to workout, and increases your cravings for carbs and sweets which creates a diet nightmare. Go to bed earlier during the week and if necessary take short naps with your partner on the weekends. You'll feel more energized and stay on track.

The only way that love and weight gain go hand in hand is if you let it. Remember that you have control over every situation. Think of yourself as much as you think of your parntner and you'll break the love weight gain cycle from the start.
