Emotional Eating Diet Tips Need emotional eating diet tips to help you deal with a loss, conflict, major change, failure, or all of the above? If emotional eating is undoing all your hard work but you're so stressed that you seem to have no control over your eating then here's what you need to get back on track instantly! Step 1: Ask Yourself What "What makes it o.k. to ruin my diet?" You will soon find that no answer is acceptable to you. Whether your dealing with a dying relative, a failed relationship, the loss of a job, or financial distress, you will find that not taking care of yourself only makes things worst. It's possible that you could justify having a box of cookies because "it will make you happy" but the reality is it will only make you happy for 10 minutes. It's also possible that you could justify skipping exercise for weeks on end because you got dumped but if you had to justify that long term it would get old pretty fast. Asking yourself this question makes you really think about the consequeces of your actions or inactions. It makes you realize that your stress and disappointments shouldn't determine how you treat your body. Next time your feeling like drowning your sorrows in a pint of ice cream ask yourself what makes it o.k. then write down your answers. You'll be surprised by how effective this is. Step 2. Find A Support Network You need to feel that somebody other than you or those close to you care about what you’re doing. An outside party or group will notice when you are absent, will offer help when you struggle, and will praise you when you get closer to your goal and this type of support is motivating. We all need to feel a sense of accomplishment and that our efforts are worth it and often times our family and friends don’t notice or care because our weight loss is not as important to them. Others going through the same struggle understand you and can also relate which makes it easier to get through the tough times. It could be a group, a personal trainer, a friend, a message board, or a counselor. It doesn't matter who or what as long as they support your efforts. If none of the options above sound appealing to you at least get yourself a diet journal and make it mandatory to report in it every day. Reporting what you do or don’t do will teach you everything you need to know about you and your body and will help you come up with solutions when things get difficult. Step 3. Get A New Attitude Stop thinking about where you’re at and how you got there and how hard it is to start or stick to something new. Stop thinking about how fat you are, how out of shape you are, how depressed you are, how hard it all is, and how sorry you feel for yourself, and start thinking about where you want to be. The more vivid a picture you paint of your goal body, the things you want to achieve with your body and your life, how great you will feel, and how you and others will love the new you, the more your mind will wrap itself around that and make it happen. Stop over-thinking all the negatives and all the details and especially stop talking about yourself like you’re not worth it. People who change their mind-set change their lifestyle and their bodies. They see themselves already there and go beyond what they think possible. Script your life as you want it, clothes size and all and you will get what you want. Yes it’s that simple.
