Classic Mystery Films
Double Indemnity DOUBLE INDEMINITY An perfect crime until Edward G. Robinson steps in. Rebecca (1940) Joan Fontaine, Laurence Olivier Daphne DuMaurierīs dark gothic romance novel REBECCA is brilliantly brought to the big screen by Alfred Hitchcock (1940) Agatha Christie - Ms. Marple Movies I was introduced to movies adapted from Agatha Christie novels by the 1945 black and white movie, And Then There Were None. Gaslight, (1944) Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer George Cukor, whose name is synonymous with so-called womenīs movies directed GASLIGHT which is a tightly knit psychological Victorian gem of a thriller. Laura (1944) Dana Andrews. Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb, This is top notch Preminger and noir at its best. The only darkness here are the obsessive behaviors of the characters. A black and white movie classic. Mr. Wong, Detective Series (1938) The idea of Boris Karloff (Frankenstein) cast as an Asian super sleuth was so intriging to me that I had to buy movies to see for myself. These films were marketed Karloff as 'James Lee Wong, Oriental sleuth'. Phantom of Chinatown (1940 b/w) In Phantom of Chinatown we learn how Dr. Wong came to know Captain Street. A very young Keye Luke has the role of James Lee Wong in this final movie in the Monogram Wong series. Rebecca (1940) Rebecca has a genre listing of romance, mystery, thriller. It is all of that and more. Much of the mystery here is Rebecca herself. Who was she? What was it about her that has everyone tread softly when they speak her name? She is already dead when the movie opens. Sherlock Holmes in August, 2005 from TCM If you consider Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce the only Holmes and Dr. Watson be sure to set tune into TCM television on August 23 starting at 8:00 p.m. The August Turner Classic Movies schedule is a delight for mystery movie fans. Sherlock Holmes Mystery Movies Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Who can resist these masters of mystery? The Kennel Murder Case (1933) Philo Vance is a debonair detective (William Powell) who runs with the rich and elite. His love of dogs and his own dog has brought him to a show at a prestigious kennel club in Long Island. This leads him to investigating the deaths of two brothers Archer (Robert Barrat) and Brisbane Coe (Frank Con The Second Woman (1951) Robert Young stars in this stylish black and white mystery movie. I bought this tape years ago because it was on the clearance table. It turned out to be a good investment; this is a very good movie. The Uninvited (1944) Ray Milland and Ruth Hussey As ghost stories go, THE UNINVITED is by far one of the best. This mystery/paranormal movie has everything, mystery, a ghost, romance and beautiful music in the background.
