Mary Shelly penned the novel Frankenstein when she was nineteen in a time when men supposedly ruled the roost of interesting and intelligent literature. Since then, this "girly" tale has been credited with launching the science fiction genre and continues to hold a heavyweight place in horror.

Perhaps the most enduring of all characters in horror literature, the Vampire has held dominion over the genre for...well, centuries. Yet its presence in horror literature is small in comparison to the myths which have focused on the vampire for thousands of years.
