The best thing to use when out walking with a new baby is a front carrying sling. Baby slings are readily available from specialist baby shops and major department stores - choose one that suits you.
Do make sure you try the sling on in the shop - put your handbag in it to feel what it would be like with some weight in it!
Make sure the straps are easy to do up and that it can be adjusted so Dad can wear it too.
Walking wearing a baby sling is a pleasant feeling, it makes your baby feel secure and you can see your baby at all times. Your arms are free to swing as you walk helping you to get the maximum benefit from your walking.
Most babies seem to enjoy being in slings and often will go straight to sleep which is an added bonus. Don’t forget that while you may be warm from the exercise of walking your baby will need to be wrapped up warm.Slings can be used to carry your baby whilst walking about doing household tasks, shopping in the mall as well as going out on actual walks.
In fact wearing a sling you can walk in places that might be difficult to get to when using a pram or pushchair.
Remember that using a baby sling means you can share the carrying - as dads can wear them to go out walking too!
