Walking Log
Guest Author - Hellie T.

One of the best things you can do when you start to walk is to keep a walking log/diary.

  • Recording the time of day is important as you might find you are happier walking at a particular time of the day – I prefer walking in the late afternoon!

  • Record the distance if you have a pedometer that tells you but it is just as good to record the number of steps.

  • Record whether you strolled, walked at a moderate pace or use a pedometer that tells you your walking speed. Don’t be discouraged if you are walking slowly it is still very good for you.

  • Record where you walked – down the road to the mailbox and back, around the park, in the Mall, to see a friend etc

  • If you are outside record the weather or even if you are inside as the weather does effect how we feel.

  • Lastly record in your walking log just how you felt at the end of your walk –were you exhausted, just tired, legs ached, arms ached, felt good, could have walked further, should have walked slower?

  • You could also give yourself space for a few notes - such as - need to remember my bottle of water, try walking pole tomorrow, my shoes only need lacing tightly at the top, thicker socks make my feet more comfortable etc.
If you are trying to lose weight you could add a weekly weight box to see how you are progressing.

Here are examples of the headings you could use.
So make your own walking log book today or buy one ready made and customize it.
