"The idea behind Core Performance Essentials is that everything starts from the core. We want to build our lives from the inside out, not just at the superficial level, like so many other programs" explains author and fitness expert Mark Verstegen. His book is an incredible guide for those of us in search of a more comprehensive yet practical fitness guide. It promotes health, wellness, happiness, energy, and a quality life and requires only 30 minutes a day of exercise.
Core Performance Essentials teaches four basic but very important principles:
- proper mindset
- doable nutrition
- efficient movement
- ideal recovery periods
The program is incredibly easy to follow and addresses all aspects of fitness including: strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, stability, mental focus, and so much more. The best part is that unlike other programs that train body parts, Core Performance Essentials focuses on function and movement so that your body reaches it's full potential at any stage. It's about getting the most out of your workouts and developing your body and energy levels fully so that you get results in the fastest, safest, and most enjoyable way possible. The only drawback is that it won't work for people with very limited mobility or major knee issues who will not be able to do moves like the lunge stretch or lateral lunge. Alternate moves for these would have been great.
In addition to the great workouts Core Performance Essentials also outlines a simple and effective eating plan. The Core Meal Assembly pages can literally be copied or ripped out of the book and posted on your fridge and will help you make the best choices at every meal. The book also offers quick recipes, and a few great eating out guides as well. More info on the diet will soon be available on the weightloss site.
Overall a great exercise program for beginners and athletes!
