Workout Wear for Your Body Type

Working out in baggy t-shirts, too tight spandex, tops that highlight your back fat, or running shorts that look like diapers probably won't do much for your body confidence or your motivation. No matter what body type you have there are tops that fit and bottoms that flatter. Get into the right workout wear and you'll look like you just lost 10 lb. plus be more likely to stick to your routine.

Apple Shapes: tend to gain in the belly area so it's hard to find both flattering tops and bottoms because most fitness tops are cut too tight and too short around the middle showing off everything you want to hide and many pants still have those horrible 1/2" elastic waistbands that cut into your waist and accent or create more rolls. Solution: Yoga clothes are the best fit for this bodytype. Look for empire yoga tanks or semi-fitted fitness tanks. They're looser in the belly area and you can choose from different strap types to flatter a smaller or bigger chest (you can also layer over a sports bra if necessary). Look for Wide ellastic low rise yoga pants or rolldown waist yoga pants that give the illusion of a flat belly. Avoid: Tappered pants, fitted tops that end right at the waist, narrow elastic bands that sit right at the waist fitted shorts that fall mid-thigh.
Great picks for apple shapes:

Pear Shapes: tend to gain in the lower body and find it hard to fit into workout clothes that are cut for streamlined runners and slim athletic builds. Solution: Sporty bottoms that create long lines and eye catching tops are key for this body type. Look for pants that have slimming vertical stripes or strategic stripes, bootcut pants with a bit of flare to create more balance, tops with print that draw attention up, and semi-fitted shorts. Avoid: Tappered pants, crop pants, knee length pants, running or soccer shorts, and top that are too light or too plain.
Great picks for pears:

Banana Shapes: have no curves and tend to gain all over so just 5-10 extra pounds can look more like 20 extra pounds if you're wearing the wrong clothes. Solution: Tops with interesting cuts that show off fit body parts and snug bottoms with sharp lines. Look for bottoms that are fitted with a bit of flare at the bottom and cool diagonal accents, tops with flattering gathers or stripe accents, or wear fitted (not skin tight) shorts with fitted tees. Avoid: Baggy or loose fitting bottoms, croped fitted tops, and drawstring elastic or gathered elastic shorts.
