Co-teaching of inclusive classrooms has been proven successful and productive for more than a decade. Teaching staff, families, and the students involved have positive responses about their experiences with inclusive classrooms, with benefits in both academics and socialization.

In the USA this is a long holiday weekend that may stress the youngest and oldest and everyone in between. I hope you carry the happiest or most peaceful memories forward and are enjoying new traditions that bring your family together and/or allows quiet moments alone to gather your strength and goodwill. If you are having a great weekend celebrating, shopping, resting and eating, I am happy for you - it would be wonderful if that is true for everyone. Sometimes even when things go right, we have anxiety and other negative feelings, or we can be downright confused and puzzled by emotions that just don't seem to belong. At those times I remember more fondly when things have gone terribly wrong and there is an obvious reason why I have mixed or negative feelings. I think most 'holiday survival guides' focus on identifiable disasters, accidents or premeditated sabotage in families with mainstream kids. We never know what is going on in our neighbor's houses, but when I see postcard picture scenes of relatives and friends parting company after a lovely holiday meal or other events, I wonder what I could do to bring a few more easy accommodations and tolerance into my own family get-togethers. Why? Everything goes along just fine when we all bring our own individuality into the mix; none of us should treat our lives as a dress rehearsal for something better. Someday I will achieve a level of enlightenment that makes more difficult days fade from my thoughts. Until then, I inexplicably imagine that every else's holiday is much less stressful than mine. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family, friends, great food and good news. Maybe I should be more comfortable with this new normal before it slips away. How about you?
