March 20 2011 Children with Special Needs Newsletter

Here are the latest articles from the Special Needs Children site at

Traumatic Birth and Motherhood
Women whose babies experience a traumatic birth can be challenged by symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder for months and even years later. Although up to ten thousand women a year are seriously affected, most are unaware of resources, information and support available for them to manage it.

Speech Therapy for Children
There are many reasons children benefit from speech therapy during childhood and even infancy. Playing games and practicing therapy strategies at home can help encourage late-talkers and those with unclear speech or confused word order as well as being fun for their siblings and mainstream peers.

Please visit for even more great content about families raising children with special needs.

Browsing and/or ordering via Amazon links in articles or newsletters slightly benefits the Special Needs Children webpage ~ but it is also important to request books at your public library or local bookstore to keep your community informed and up to date about topics and issues important to your family. Or, you can purchase books to donate to doctor's offices, school libraries, or advocacy group libraries.

To participate in free, fun online discussions, this site has a community forum with topics on issues of interest to families of children who represent the true diversity of every community, located here -

I hope to hear from you sometime soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. Let me know if there is a topic of interest you would like to read about at the Special Needs Children website.

Please pass this message along to family and friends.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the terrible earthquake, tsunamis, and nuclear power plant problems in Japan. There is a great deal of heartache and tragedy in the world right now; and families in crisis due to world events, weather, and other difficulties. I hope each of us can find one reason to hope, to smile, to feel joy and comfort; even when we are in the midst of troubling times, grief or loss. You deserve kindness, support, and peace every step of the way. Thank you for being there for those who depend on you, and finding a kindred spirit or kind word to get you through to better days.
