The Great Promise of Service Animals
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art61552.asp
Service animals have aided children, teens and adults with disabilities for decades. Although some leading animal rights activists protest the use of working dogs and other animals, we applaud those who rescue dogs to train for companionship, therapy and service or breed and train them specifically.

People First Language Sensitivity

Remember, it is sensitive and respectful to use 'people first' language - 'children with special needs' instead of 'special needs children.' We still have a long way to go because the most common search phrase by far is 'special needs children' - and that is how most readers find this website. There's no particular reason that we need to use the word 'special' either. 'Fabulous,' 'wonderful' or 'excellent' are all more appropriate to all our sons and daughters.

I hope to hear from you sometime soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I thrive on your feedback!

Have fun passing this message along to family and friends, because we all love free knowledge!
