November 10 2010 Children with Special Needs Newsletter

Here's the latest article from the Special Needs Children site at

Teen and Adult Siblings - Childhood Disabilities
There is a great diversity among adult siblings who have grown up with a brother or sister who has a developmental disability, chronic health condition, or other special needs. Research to date shows many more sensitivities and positive attributes in most adult siblings than their mainstream peers.

November is the month to remember what we are most thankful for having in our lives ~ a great time to thank you for advocating for and encouraging your children to reach their true potential, and for being great friends to those who may feel slightly overwhelmed or isolated during our grand adventure together.

If you are looking for crafts to do in your spare time - er, fine motor therapy or expressive art therapy - check out your public library, local bookstore or online retailer for ideas or reminders:

Thanksgiving Crafts
Clothespins, Recyclables, Easy to Do, My Very Own

And don't forget books on the theme like:
Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving
Thanks for Thanksgiving

There may be fun craft ideas and stories in magazines at the check out line or grocery/pharmacy news stand - the best of course are those that look less like the perfect example and more like you and your child were enjoying the time together. Remember that some of us have sensory issues with glue or textures, smells or sounds (Hey! I have some of those! Moms count, too.)

Please visit for other articles of interest to families raising children or teens with special needs.
