Respectful Language
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art175511.asp
Respectful language means remembering "People First" word order and avoiding use of the "R-word" or its variations. But being aware of the damage that hate language and bullying causes means that we can no longer be bystanders when others use derogatory words and comments to tease vulnerable children, teens and adults.

CafeMom: Submit your questions about the new health care law
http://www.cafemom.com/group/115890/forums/read/16323429/Obama_for_America_Campaign_Director_Answers_CafeMom_Members_Questions_on_the_New_Health_Care_Law

Do you have questions about the Affordable Care Act?
It is disturbing to read hateful comments about people with disabilities and their families not deserving the health services and medical necessities that our children benefit from under the new health care laws. Some say that our families deserve to go bankrupt if we cannot manage our children's care on our own and that our sons and daughters are 'stealing' services paid for by 'people with jobs' while we stay at home, lazy and greedy, expecting all our children's needs to be met. We know how hard we work and how much we and our children contribute to the well-being of our communities. I don't mind respectful debate but I am feeling quite vulnerable due to the bullying and mischaracterization of our families and the new health care law.
I have read that it will have significant positive impact for families of children, teens and adults with disabilities, chronic health conditions, and other special needs. By supporting adequate and affordable healthcare we will save hundreds of dollars in emergency care and health complications for every dollar invested in healthcare for our sons and daughters.
I hope we can raise awareness in the general public about how hardworking and responsible we are as parents and advocates, and how much we and our children contribute to the quality of life and richness of experience of our communities. Our families, including our sons and daughters with special needs, deserve the benefits of affordable health care.
Ms. Cutter will respond to our comments, questions, and concerns next week at CafeMom, and I hope they will reflect the true diversity of our community. Families of children and teens with disabilities know the value of accessible and affordable healthcare in preventive care, early treatment of illness and injury, and available emergency response.
