Neurofibromatosis
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art177185.asp
About 20% of tumors in children are caused by 1 of 3 types of Neurofibromatosis, genetic disorders that cause tumors to grow along the covering of nerves, also affecting bones and skin. The earliest symptom of the most common form of neurofibromatosis with a baby are café au lait birthmarks.
About ninety percent of those with NF have Type 1, or or Peripheral NF, previously known as von Recklinghausen NF. About two thirds of those with NF1 are mildly affected and will have few health problems that are mild or treatable. They may not be diagnosed until their teen or adult years.
Some who have NF1 have serious health problems that make daily life more difficult from early childhood, and the rest have experiences somewhere in between.

Browsing (and making purchases) at our Amazon aStores benefits the Children with Special Needs website. There are also links to books and other products beneath almost every article at the Children with Special Needs website. I appreciate your support! Most of the books are available at your public library or local bookstore, but the reader reviews and list of related resources on Amazon have been helpful to many parents and other advocates.
