Editor Recommended DVD's of 2006  Although 2006 was not a bumper year for horror DVD releases, there were still several must-own discs that came on to the market. Here is my recommended top 5 DVD's of 2006. Freddy vs. Jason - A Nightmare on Friday the 13th  Jason Voorhees and Freddy Kruger have a lot in common: they are both pretty ugly, they are both pretty angry, they are both pretty scary, and they are both modern day mega horror icons. Being modern day folklore tales, these characters have become the 2 faces of evil in our nightmares - so it makes Funny Games Film review  Naomi Watts and Tim Roth star in this disturbing look at movie violence, as a family is taken hostage by two insane teens in the movie ´Funny Games.´ Ginger Snaps review  An in depth look at the 2000 werewolf movie, Ginger Snaps Haute Tension - DVD Review  Directed by the man responsible for the blood-soaked remake of The Hills Have Eyes, Haute Tension is a master class in atmospheric and anxiety filled horror. See it with a stress ball handy! Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Part 2 - DVD Review  Released 12 years after the groundbreaking original, Henry Part 2 had no right to be as good as it is. Dark Sky Films release is a good one too, being uncut and presented in it´s original format. Read my review here. Masters of Horror - DVD Overview  Horror takes its most talented directors and turns to television, giving the genre a much needed boost thanks to this superb series. Europe Region 2 DVD finally gets Part One. Mean Creek, Mean Lives  A friend told me that if I wanted to see a good horror movie, to watch Mean Creek. A few days ago I did just that. I will admit that it's a good show, not outstanding, but worth watching. But I wouldn't class it as horror. It's a drama. Tense, emotional, it tugs at the senses and can bring you to Nightmare City - DVD Review  From the director of Cannibal Ferox comes a zombie movie featuring radioactive horrors terrorising a city that isn´t supposed to be Rome, but probably is. Actor Hugo Stiglitz and his beard attempt to stop them! Open Water Movie Review  A look at the movie ´Open Water´ a horror film based on true life events. Red Eye movie review  A review of the thriller ´Red Eye´ by Wes Craven, starring Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy. Rob Zombies Halloween  A look at the latest remake of a classic horror, this time Rob Zombie attempts Halloween. Has he done it justice? Sweeny Todd Movie Review  A look at Tim Burton´s ´Sweeny Todd´ starring Johnny Depp, in this musical horror. Switchblade Romance horror movie review  Review of the recent French cult horror, starring Cecile De France and Gianetto De Rossi. The Beast Must Die - DVD Review  A werewolf whodunnit from the British horror movie studio Amicus. Another great DVD from Dark Sky Films, complete with the infamous ´werewolf break´! The Craft  A look at the 1996 movie about teen witches, ´The Craft´, starring Robin Tunney and Fairuza Balk. The Dead Next Door - DVD Review  The Dead Next Door is a super low-budget gore movie filled with references to almost every popular zombie flick ever made. A tight selection of extras round off a fun package. The Devil’s Rain – DVD Review  It´s Devil worshipping, tortured souls, melting bodies and William Shatner in this beautifully shot 70s horror movie. Dark Sky Films give it their usual loving treatment too. The Fly - DVD review  It´s ´Insect Politics´, a love triangle and a fair degree of splattery effects in David Cronenberg´s remake of the 1958 original, all wrapped up in a great 2 disc DVD release The Hamilton's 2006  A look at the new DVD ´The Hamilton´s´, and looking at the movie itself. The Hills Have Eyes - DVD Review  Review of the recent remake of Wes Craven's 70s shocker about in-bred crazies living in the mountains and preying on unwary travelers. Director Alexandre Aja adds a nuclear back story and terrorises a new generation. The Hitcher  A look at the original 1987 ´The Hitcher´ and it´s subtext, plus a look at the 2007 remake. The Howling - DVD Review  Before Gremlins and Small Soldiers, director Joe Dante made this cool entry into the werewolf genre, recently re-released as an extra´s packed 2 disc DVD. Read about it here. The Skeleton Key - DVD Review  The Skeleton Key takes us into the creepy world of Voodoo and Hoodoo, complete with a stunning New Orleans backdrop. Kate Hudson´s superb performance stands out in this recommended movie. The Stepford Wives (1978)  A look at the 1975 classic psychological horror, The Stepford Wives, based on the novel by Ira Levin. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - DVD Review  One of the most controversial horror movies ever made, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is unrelenting, raw and above all, terrifying. This new release from Dark Sky Films does this great movie credit. There’s Something About May  There is something strange about May Canady. She is a nice girl – just slightly “off kilter”. This modern day Frankenstein story is part black comedy and distinctly horror. While not intended for all tastes – it will leave those who watch it understanding the quest for acceptance and companionship Touch of Death - DVD Review  Lucio Fulci, the man who gaves use Zombie Flesh Eaters and The Beyond, brings us this quirky, gory and mildly offensive oddity, which in the great man´s book is a recipe for a black comedy! Violent Midnight - DVD Review  Dark Sky Films presents another Del Tenney movie, this time the Psycho-esque Violent Midnight. Excellent acting and a pin sharp black and white transfer make this a good release of a little known film. Wes Craven's New Nightmare  A look at post-modern horror, looking at Wes Craven´s New Nightmare (1994) and Scream (1996) What Lies Beneath 2001  A review of ´What Lies Beneath´, a Hitchcock style ghost story, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford. Witchboard – DVD Review  Prepare for a trip back to the 80s in this supernatural horror featuring Tawny Kitaen being possessed by a spirit from a Ouija Board! Lot´s of fun and not without jumps and atmosphere, this is one of the better 80s horrors. Women's Studies Movie Review  A review of the indie horror movie ´Women´s Studies´about an all female feminist cult. Zombie 3 - DVD Review  Not to be confused by the thousands of other ´Zombie´ sequels out there, this has nothing to do with Dawn of the Dead, Italian or otherwise. What it is however, is a bad movie, and a trash classic.
